What do we need to carry out the calculations?

Firstly we need to know the requirements of your local authority in terms of water usage in litres per day.

This varies from authority to authority but is typically 125 or 110 litres per day.

We will also need a set of floor plans which clearly show the bedrooms and bathroom configurations with number of outlets and details of the flow rates for taps and showers, bath sizes, wc flow rates dishwasher and washing machine specifications.

Next, the average water consumption per person per day is used to calculate the total daily water usage for the dwelling. This can include factors such as toilet flushing, bathing, and washing. These values are usually provided in the Building Regulations or other industry standards.

Once the daily water usage is determined, it can be extrapolated to determine the annual water consumption for the dwelling. This annual consumption figure is then compared against the allowable water consumption limit set by Part G of the Building Regulations.

If the calculated water usage exceeds the allowable limit, additional measures may be required to achieve compliance. These measures could include the installation of water-efficient fixtures and fittings, such as low-flow faucets, showers, and toilets, or the implementation of water recycling systems.
It is important to note that water calculations for compliance with Part G are crucial in ensuring that new dwellings are designed to be water-efficient and environmentally sustainable.

What is a Part G water efficiency calculation?

Part G of the building regulations in the UK places requirements on developers to conserve the usage of water in dwellings through the design and use of fittings and appliances which use water efficiently and sparingly.

The calculations demonstrate compliance by quantifying the water usage per person per day in line with national and regional requirements. The Calculation of a dwellings water usage is essential to demonstrate compliance with Part G for both new builds and conversion projects.
